Ancient Greek Advanced 2

This course is for students who have completed studies of Ancient Greek language to an intermediate standard or who wish to brush up on previous Greek language studies. We will read several of Lysias' speeches, examining the techniques of forensic speech and its social and cultural contexts.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Linguistic reading of the speeches
  • Integrated discussion of the orator’s technique, social and cultural contexts

PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Read and understand unabridged passages of Lysias’ speeches.
  2. Discuss the social and cultural contexts of classical Greek forensic oratory.

LANGUAGE CLASS TRANSFER POLICY

If you are a new WEA Student and enrol into a language class and subsequently find that you are at the wrong level (whether too high or too low), you are permitted to transfer into another more suitable class at no additional cost, provided that the request is made within the first two classes and is in writing from your tutor directly to the Education Manager. After that point, an administration fee of $30 will apply.
