This course is for those who have a some knowledge of Classical Greek grammar, mainly the function of nouns, verbs and vocabulary. During the course we read simplified passages in Ancient Greek and continue to consolidate the grammar before tackling syntax. The cultural context of mainly Ancient Athens is explored.

COURSE OUTLINE

Basic Grammar Topics and questions are introduced through graded reading, including:

  • Nouns and adjectives – building up a familiarity with different declensions
  • Verbs - conjugation of regular and important irregular verbs in present tense
  • Adverbs
  • Integrated discussion of culture and literature

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Be able to read and understand simple passages abridged from Classical Greek writers.
  2. Have developed skills for learning an inflected language.
