Examine another 10 artefacts from the ancient and medieval worlds, some famous, others obscure, all of them fascinating. The British Museum was founded in the late 18th Century with a view to make knowledge of the ancient world accessible to all. On this morning we will examine 10 objects from this museum, includimg The Winged Geni from Khorsabad, The Warren Cupand The Vindolanda Tablets, putting each one into its social, cultural and political context. This is a self-contained course and it is not necessary to have previously studied, ‘A Morning in the British Museum’.


PLANNED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Understand and appreciate the British Museum’s mission statement.
  2. Gain a respect for the ancient world through the examination of a number of objects housed in the museum and comprehend something of the societies that produced them.
