Develop the skills to become a flashpacker (an affluent backpacker). European travel can be extremely expensive and many itineraries take you on the well-worn tracks of generations of travellers. If you develop the skills of a flashpacker, you will soon find yourself travelling the road less known and saving yourself a bundle of money without having to compromise on comfort.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • What is a flashpacker? An introduction to the concept of flashpacking. How is it different from backpacking? Is there an age limit to flashpacking?
  • How to save money as a flashpacker: This part of the course looks at how to use the internet to save money on accommodation and transport. Booking ahead and travelling at the right time of day, can save you thousands of dollars on airline and rail tickets. How do I find these bargains? Is there a catch?
  • Accommodation: Flashpackers never stay in dorms, but they often seek out accommodation that has a communal as opposed to a party atmosphere. Flashpackers don’t mind sharing a toilet or a bathroom and they are happy to prepare their own meals in a communal kitchen. If you know where to look, this type of accommodation is not hard to find.
  • Flashpackers don’t miss out on the good things: Flashpacking is not just about saving money. The good restaurant, the expensive day trip, the rental car are all within the boundaries of flashpacking.
  • Flashpacking the cities of Europe: This part of the course looks at available flashpacking options in Paris, Berlin, Munich, London, Amsterdam, Glasgow, Vienna, Krakow,Budapest, Barcelona, Zurich and Reykjavik. Accommodation and food options, as well as getting around on a budget and off the beaten track sight seeing options.
  • Flashpacking in the countryside: The Swiss Alps, the Hebrides Islands, the Bavarian Alps, Iceland are all perfect places for a little rural flashpacking.
  • Possible Itineraries: An overview of some easily achieved ‘flashpacker’ itineraries that includes brief forays into Asia, the Middle East and North Africa..
