A Basic Introduction to Linguistics

Linguistics is the science of language, which focuses mainly on language forms and meaning, but also on language use in context. As for any discipline, it has various subfields and is at the intersection with many others, such as philosophy, sociology, psychology, anthropology, neurosciences, among others.

This course offers an introduction to the object of study of linguistics, and gives an overview of the subdisciplines it encompasses. It is addressed to students who are interested in languages, how they work, evolve and how we can study them, and to anyone who wants to familiarize with this area of knowledge and its practical applications.

This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer.
