An Armchair Guide to the Ancient World

We visit the British Museum, the New York Metropolitan, the Louvre, Berlin’s Museum Island and the Cairo Museum concentrating on objects from the ancient past. Each week, we will visit a different museum examining 10 objects from the ancient world, some of them well known, others obscure, all of them fascinating. Some of the items include the Parthenon Marbles (Elgin Marbles), the bust of Nefertiti, the Empress Sabina wife of the Emperor Hadrian, the Venus de Milo (Aphrodite of Melos) and the throne of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Each object will be presented in its historical, cultural and social context.

This class will be delivered face-to-face at WEA Sydney. Enrolling students need to ensure they have read the current COVID-19 Safety Guidance that WEA Sydney has put in place before enrolling.
