Response to COVID-19 | The Latest

Last updated: 1st October 2020

In line with many other organisations, WEA Sydney was quick to take action to protect its tutors, students and staff when the rapid development of the COVID-19 virus became clear in March. Since then all our classes have been conducted online via Zoom.

For the time being the majority of WEA's courses and events will continue to be delivered in this format. However, as restrictions are slowly being eased, WEA Sydney is looking towards a gradual reintroduction of some face to face teaching in the coming weeks and months.

The following measures will be in place in WEA House to limit the risk to students and staff:

  • Class numbers will be limited to allow seating to be spread out in-line with social distancing requirements.
  • Access to the building and classrooms will be managed to ensure social distancing is maintained at all times.
  • All classrooms and common areas will be cleaned before and after classes.
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided on entry and exit, and throughout the building.
  • Participants in a class at WEA House must wear a mask at all times within the building, including in the classroom. If you do not have one, WEA have a limited supply available.
  • Any enrolees who have symptoms of respiratory illness, or have recently visited or travelled from a COVID-19 hotspot, will be asked to stay away and offered a full refund.
  • No onsite refreshments will be available.

As always, the health and safety of our staff, students, and the wider community, remains paramount. WEA Sydney will continue to follow the NSW Government requirements in relation to curbing the spread of COVID-19 in accordance with our COVID-19 Safety Plan that has been registered with the NSW Government.

To participate in our classes using Zoom, all you need is an email, internet connection and access to a device such as a phone/tablet or computer with a microphone and speakers. For more information on how our online classes work, please see our Zoom FAQ page.

The WEA office remains open during this period and you can contact us through the regular channels.
