Course Discounts

Course discounts where applicable are listed in our course guide and on the website. Concessions are available to the following;

  • Aged pensioners
  • Members of Affiliated Organisations:
    1. Retired Teachers Association (NSW Branch)
    2. Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (NSW Branch)
    3. Sydney Mechanical School of Arts
    4. The Independent Education Union
    5. The NSW Teachers Federation
    6. Transport Workers Union of NSW
  • Seniors card holders
  • Social security beneficiaries:
    1. Full-time students
    2. Jobseekers
    3. People with disability
    4. Sole parents
    5. Veterans

For online discount claims, you must select the correct concession type during the summary page when you have proceeded to the checkout. If you have enrolled into a course via the website without claiming your concession (if applicable), you will not be able to claim a reimbursement or concession for the enrolled classes.

Applications for reduction of fees on the grounds of hardship will be considered. These need to be made in person to the executive officer and will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Refunds, Credit Notes & Transfer Policy

  • Cash refunds will only be issued if a course is cancelled or withdrawn.
  • If you are unable to attend a course, a credit note can be issued at the discretion of the Education Manager, provided the request is made in writing no less than 21 days before the course is due to commence.
  • If a class is cancelled, a credit note will automatically be issued unless you specifically request a refund or transfer. You have 2 weeks from the date of cancellation to request this.
  • Credit notes & refunds will be processed within 14 days of a class cancellation.
  • In the case of serious illness, a credit note will be issued ONLY on production of a medical certificate. A family member’s illness is not covered by WEA Sydney’s Refund Policy.
  • A $30 administrative fee applies to ALL enrolment changes irrespective of the price of the course.
  • WEA Sydney cannot be held responsible for any changes in personal circumstances or work commitments.
  • A course enrolment can be transferred if you wish to pass it onto another person, unless stated otherwise.
  • WEA Sydney is not responsible for books or materials that you may have purchased for a course, or any personal cost or expenses incurred for attending a course.
  • WEA Sydney reserves the right to alter any of the published arrangements, either before or during the course, or to cancel or terminate a course.
  • WEA Sydney reserves the right to refuse enrolments as permitted by law.
  • If you are a new WEA student and enrol into a language course and you or the tutor decide the class is not at a suitable level, a transfer will be offered free of charge. All such requests must be made by the tutor and within 2 weeks of the course commencing.
