Whatever you’re writing – a letter to the editor, a speech, poetry, prose, memoir, fact or fiction – your words will resonate more with an audience when generated from a creative space. Some people are born with this creative flair but it can be taught and it’s never too late to learn.

This class will be delivered online via the online platform Zoom. Enrolling students need to ensure they have an email, a reliable internet connection, microphone/speakers and access to a tablet, smartphone or computer.

COURSE OUTLINE

• Cross-check the ABCs of creative writing.
• Audience - who is your audience?
• Believability of content - do you have it?
• Connection - all writing is about making a connection.
• Dialogue - realistic dialogue can ground a piece of work.
• Ending - a brilliant ending is absolutely, positively essential.
• Other writing concepts from ‘F’ through to ‘Z’ will be discussed.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

1. Find writing competitions to enter.
2. Feel more comfortable embarking on a new piece or finishing a current piece of writing.
