Some of the most beautiful music, art and sculpture created for the Christmas season, from the Baroque period up to today. Both sacred and secular, vocal and instrumental music will be included.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

1. Appreciate the beauty and depth of the different musical and artistic works presented and their original/present architectural setting.
2. Evaluate the significance of the social aspects of Christmastide in inspiring great art and music.
3. Discuss the continuities and contrasts between the various works studied.
4. Develop a clearer view of stylistic change as it relates to the music and art included in this lecture.
