Iceland has become a bit of flavour of the month in the international tourist trade. And it is no wonder considering that this island nation is home to some truly unique and spectacular scenery. Iceland was first settled by Vikings in the 9th Century and is home to the world’s oldest parliament. The sagas of Viking Icelanders have inspired many a modern fantasy writer, from J.R Tolkein to the recent television series ‘Game of Thrones’. In this lecture we will take an armchair ride through Iceland’s wild landscapes, taking a look at what is on offer for the adventure tourist and those who prefer a slower pace.
