Egypt had a number of female rulers. However, no Egyptian queen took upon herself the titles and regalia of a pharaoh with the exception of the New Kingdom queen Hatshepsut. Hatshepsut was one Egypt’s greatest rulers. She ruled Egypt as both king and queen for around 20 years, sharing a co-regency with her step-son Thutmose III. Her mortuary temple at Deir el Bahri is regarded as one of the most exquisite of Egypt’s many temples. It is an obelisk of Hatshepsut that is the tallest standing obelisk in Egypt today. In this course we will examine Hatshepsut’s rule, her achievements and her legacy.

4. Make judgements about the way 20th and 21st Century historians view Hatshepsut.
